Assess your fit
Step 1 of 2 · about 60 secondsCareer questions, answered
How do I get into tech sales in Australia?
Start by comparing sales development representative (SDR) and business development representative (BDR) job descriptions. Practise researching a business, asking discovery questions and writing a concise follow-up. Build examples of customer conversations from your current work. Requirements vary by employer; a coding degree is not a universal requirement.
What is the difference between an SDR and an account executive?
SDRs usually research prospects, start conversations and qualify potential customers. Account executives generally run deeper discovery, demonstrations and negotiations. Titles and responsibilities vary; account executive roles may require previous sales experience rather than being a first entry point.
How should I compare tech sales salaries?
Separate guaranteed base salary from on-target earnings (OTE). OTE includes variable commission that depends on performance and the employer's plan; it is not guaranteed pay. Check the role's seniority, sales targets, location and whether superannuation is included before comparing advertised packages.
